Application
How to Apply to Study in Australia.
The Australian government operates an Overseas Student Program
(OSP) that allows people who are not Australian citizens or Australian
permanent residents to study in Australia. Any person who is not
an Australian resident may apply to study in Australia under the
OSP. A person who wants to study under the program must obtain
a student visa before they can begin to study their course in
Australia. To be granted a student visa you must complete an application
form, pay the application charge and satisfy the student visa
requirements. The Australian Government has identified certain
countries whose nationals have demonstrated that they satisfy
the conditions of their student visas to a high degree. These
countries have been listed in a special edition of the Australian
Government’s Commonwealth Gazette and for the purposes of the
Overseas Student Program are known as "gazetted countries". If
a country is not listed in this gazette, it is known as a "non-gazetted
country". It should be noted that student applications from "gazetted
countries" are processed differently to student applications from
"non-gazetted countries". The main difference between the two
is that nationals of gazetted countries follow more streamlined
processing procedures when applying for a student visa.
