began life as a mining town way back in the gold rush days of 1853. Because
of its picturesque situation at the foot of the Victorian Alps, when the
gold ran out, it became a popular holiday destination. Now with its avenues
of deciduous trees, clean, clear water streams, numerous hiking tracks,
it is becoming even more popular.
